ABOUT ME
My name is Katarina Someillan and I am a Production Designer and Fabricator with a passion for creating themed experiences that mix the profound, humorous, and totally absurd.
Born and raised in Miami, FL, I am a Cuban-American who grew up in a culture that values togetherness, picking up skills quickly, and a zest for life that can find the humor in the best and worst of times. I went to Immaculata La-Salle High School (class of 2019) where I found my love for prop design for theatre, in addition to developing skills in creative writing and graphic design.
I later went on to attend Savannah College of Art & Design, earning a B.F.A. in Production Design with a concentration in Theme Parks and Attractions, graduating Spring of 2024. Finding my unique style was a process of excavating parts of the story I have to tell and mixing aspects that I find in myself and others; from using my quirky sense of humor to create a hairdryer for a famously hairless video game character, to appealing to a sense of discovery via a glitching portal to another dimension. In order to fully realize these ideas, I developed skills in model making, drafting, and storytelling, employing several programs to fully realize my design vision.
In addition to SCAD, my education in what makes a great guest experience extended into my time in the Disney College Program in Fall 2022 as a Photopass Photographer and working at the Front Desk of the Presidents Quarters Inn in Savannah, GA. While these jobs had radically different day-to-day procedures, both of them required me to provide a great guest experience by problem solving independently, communicating effectively with guests in both English and Spanish, keeping a positive attitude, and most importantly, upholding the brand’s story.
On my days off I pursue the little experiences that inspire me to create, such as exploring the local music scene, sketching at the park, and DJing with friends.
